I recently went to Wales for the weekend and to a beautiful, totally unexpected place called Portmeirion Village, where they filmed the cult TV series 'The prisoner'.
These are some of the pictures I took. If you ever go, stay in a lovely country house hotel called Plas-tan-yr-allt which is lovely and very warm and cosy!

I did this picture with spray paint and collage. The image is raised from the backgroundusing foam board so the shadow shows behind the fish. I used marbleized paper I bought in Florence and spraypainted the background through lace. The rest of the fish, coral and seaweed was done with spraypaint and coloured pencil. The bubbles are origami paper!!

This is the first three pages of a moleskine exchange I am involved in. I have named my book "the Journey". I am sending it to Japan tomorrow and the person who has it next can decide where she wants the journey to go next...... it will be interesting to see where it is taken, there will be 10 people working on it. I wonder where she will go?

Upon finding out that Jack had sold their cow for a few beans, Jack's mother screamed in dismay........there was nothing left of their family fortune and she wouldn't be able to have her usual botox injections!!!! She was inconsolable!

This is the second picture of 5 I am doing for 'Jack and the Beanstalk', In this version they are a family of loafers who have squandered their family's money until they have nothing left. Then Jack finds his cash cow up in the beanstalk..... money without the work as he steals from the Giant.

Munch: Print exhibition National Gallery, Dublin

Today I went along to the National Gallery in Merrion Square, Dublin to see the exhibition of prints done by the Norwegian artist, Edvard Munch. It is on until December and I thought was well worth the visit. the ubiquitous 'The Scream' (lithograph)was there with it's lines vibrating!! Also 'Death and the Woman'(1895) and 'The sick child' (1896)( both lithographs) along with portraits of the poet, Stéphane Mallarmé, Swedish playwright, August Strindberg, and the philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche. My favourite print was his self portrait

Anisetta Meletti, Piazza del popolo

I'm back from Le Marche. Had a lovely trip despite having a real problem with my neck and shoulder (apparently I had whiplash years ago, according to the chiropractor). The weather was, surprise, surprise, wonderful and I did an awful lot of driving from the airport in Bologna to Rimini then Fano, Ascoli Piceno, Mondavio and Gubbio. Ascoli piceno was a bit disappointing apart from the main square where I sat and had coffee and ice cream in the famous Anisetta Meletti where there was a really unfriendly waiter who I believe was probably in the wrong job!!
The hotel I stayed in was called Villa Guilia was a lovely country house hotel..... very romantic place with lovely rooms and good service. The pool was a great size and not busy.
Gubbio in Umbria was really pretty and I had yet another ice cream to calm my nerves after falling very inelegantly on the cobbled streets in front of a very large crowd of people who were celebrating something! At least I added a touch of entertainment to the event. (note to self: must remember to wear sensible shoes whilst walking around medieval cities!!!!
All in all.... food delicious, place beautiful, wish I lived there!! Dublin, well, was lashing with rain when I got back! winter has started!

I am going back to Le Marche on Friday.........I must bring my camera, I must bring my camera! I am staying at a small hotel called Villa Guilia, which looks lovely and I am going to visit Ascoli Piceno and Gubbio if I can. I also want to see alovely beach in a place called Conero but so far I haven't been able to get directions so I will have to search hard. Anyway am really looking forward to it, will bring back lots of photos. See you next week.

view of Le Marche countryside

taken from the car on the way to the Frasassi caves which were beautiful. The thing about this picture is that I have always thought of Italy as a very populated country like England, but here I can't find any houses for miles!!!
I went to Fano in Le Marche last weekend and thought it was a beautiful place, unfortunately though I only had my iphone to take some pictures so didn't take many and not brilliant quality either. I am however going back on the 28th and will be packing a proper camera......can't wait.

Front cover for a book I'm working on about the true nature of Jack and the Beanstalk. This version is more from the Giants point of view. Watercolour, pen and ink.
First page. I have decided to do this using a little bit of collage. I have enjoyed working with collage after taking a class with Adrienne Geoghegan

I have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Puglia, Italy. We stayed in an agritourismo place called Masseria Cappuccini (www.masseriacappuccini.com). It was fine, with a great swimming pool and not many other guests. But most of all it was cheap. We stayed in a 2 bedroom lodge for €100 per day. They have the traditional Trulli also but as I had two daughters with me I needed something a bit more practical. We were about ten minutes drive from Martina Franca and Cisternino and also within a short distance from Locorotundo and Alberobello. All lovely places. There are lovely restaurants in all of them but I didn't really find any to write home about in Martina Franca. Also I am a bit short on details about this place because didn't think I'd be writing a blog about it!!! but fear not I am off to Fano in Le Marche on the 31st July and WILL be taking notes!!! Safe to say I had a lovely holiday, hardly bumped into any English speaking tourists! But beware!! I have only recently started to learn Italian so my knowledge is niente(!!) and I did feel a little bit of a donna stupido, so take a good phrasebook.
My definite must see would be Lecce for the beautiful city and the Otranto area for the sea ( we never made it to Otranto itself). Apparently the Isola di Tremiti are supposed to be beautiful. We set off for them but have a problem with early mornings (we don't get up before 10.30am, try as we might) and it was much further than it looked on the map. Anyway we didn't find the ferry terminal until too late so we went to a local beach, had a good old swim and then set off home!! but next time I will definitely get up earlier.
